Kudzanai Chiurai

Born 1981, Zimbabwe.

Kudzanai Chiurai lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he studied Art, having left his home in Harare in 1999. His work has featured in many highly significant international exhibitions, such as documenta 13 (2012), Contemporary South African Photography at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, and Impressions from South Africa (2011), as well as in Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1965 to Now (2011). His work is held in many public collections such as MOMA, NYC as well as in international private collections.

Since his move from Zimbabwe, Chiurai has been involved in exile politics. His painting directly addresses the issue of conflict in the contemporary moment in Africa. Across the media of painting, drawing and sculpture, his work has won him a strong following, dealing, as it scathingly does, in commentary about African power and corruption.
