Born 1973, Japan
Miwa Ogasawa studied at the Bukkyo University, Japan from 1997 to 2002. In 2004 she moved to Germany to study first at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and then under Prof. Norbert Schwontkowski & Prof. Werner Büttner at Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg graduating in 2007. Ogasawara now lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.
Ogasawara’s atmospheric paintings are sparse and minimal and use a muted tone palette. Mystery surrounds her softly focused empty interiors and figurative paintings. Yet there is a perfect harmony of East and West influences in her work and a depth in the quiet reflective aesthetic that borrows from Japanese and Northern European painting traditions.
