Born 1983, China
Zhai Liang originally comes from Shanxi Province. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2006. In 2009, he received a Master’s Degree from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.
In 2013 Zhai had two important solo shows, one at the White Space in Beijing and the other at the 1000 Plateaus Space in Chengdu. He has also taken part in a number of group shows in Asia including at the Antenna Space, Shanghai, Galerie Steph, Singapore and Mizuma & One Gallery, Beijing. Zhai now lives and works in Beijing.
Zhai’s delicate conceptual oil paintings and watercolours are inspired by literature, history and personal memories. He tries to create visual ‘encyclopedias’ and books where real memories or perceptions of personal or social events are depicted. Though still a young artist, Zhai’s technical abilities are impressive, as evident in particular in his watercolour works featuring an exceptional use of the medium.
