In my paintings, I am interested in telling a story. I want the images I paint to be open ended and enigmatic. Painting, for me, always leads to an internal truth. I am particularly interested in everyday objects which have meaning beyond their mundane appearance, a metaphysical or symbolic meaning, where these bland objects come alive and congregate to console each other’s misfortunes. I believe that everything has a personality, that everything has a face, hence the anthropomorphic figures in my drawings and paintings. For me, painting is partly about creating intrigue. This is also how I would like the paintings to be for the viewer, a distorted yet entertaining puzzle.
